Guiding Principles:
- Producing quality music that can be performed by all or a variety of ITG members (from beginning/intermediate to professional) – in general, the Executive Committee and Board of Directors have defined this as works for an advanced undergraduate, and the committee has considered ossias and alternate versions as a way of making this possible while allowing as much flexibility as possible for major composers;
- Stimulating interest in the trumpet by a variety of world-renown composers that have not written music specifically for the instrument (solo and chamber music);
- Bringing interest to music by underrepresented composers: Women, Latin American, Middle Eastern, Asian, etc.;
- Focusing on genres where additional music would greatly enhance the repertoire for the instrument: for example, trumpet with alternate media or trumpet ensemble.
- Assuring new works are made available to the general ITG membership beyond a hearing at an ITG Conference. This may be through external publication, supplements, or ITG’s website, and articles/interviews regarding the composer may be used to add visibility, assist in procuring composers with an appropriate fee as dictated by available resources, and overall assist in providing meaningful and enduring projects.
