Sokratis Anthis at the University of Kentucky
Greek trumpeter Sokratis Anthis was a guest artist at the University of Kentucky (UK) March 18–21, 2024.
He visited UK as part of a delegation of five faculty members from Ionian University in Corfu, Greece, who were visiting the USA for their new Bilateral Partnership with the University of Kentucky School of Music.
On Monday, March 18, Anthis performed in a “Global Gala” recital, where he performed as a soloist and with the UK Faculty Brass Quintet. He also taught master classes and private trumpet lessons. During his time in Lexington, Anthis also enjoyed sightseeing and such local attractions as the Kentucky Horse Park and Town Branch Distillery.
Anthis was principal trumpet of the Greek National Opera Orchestra from 1975–1990, principal trumpet of the Athens State Opera Orchestra from 1980–1991, and principal trumpet of the Greek Radio and Television National Symphony Orchestra from 1976–2003. In addition to teaching at Ionian University, Anthis also serves as conductor and chief musician of the Mantzaros Philharmonic in Corfu. (Source: Jason Dovel)
