University of Saskatchewan: 1-year Limited-Term in Trumpet/Jazz

Applications are invited for a one-year limited-term position in Trumpet/Jazz (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025) at the rank of Assistant Professor within the Department of Music at the University of Saskatchewan.

Job Duties:

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and potentially graduate-level courses in applied classical trumpet, as well as courses in the jazz area commensurate with departmental needs, and the candidate’s strengths, as selected from the following (listed alphabetically): composition; jazz arranging; jazz ensemble (director); jazz history; jazz improvisation; and jazz pedagogy. The successful candidate may also teach other courses outside of the trumpet and jazz areas that are commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and the curricular needs of the department. The successful candidate will also undertake administrative activities corresponding to rank.

The Department of Music resides within the College of Arts & Science which offers a dynamic combination of programs in the humanities and fine arts, social sciences, and natural sciences. There are approximately 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students in the College and 300 faculty, including 9 Canada Research Chairs.

With a present complement of nine full-time faculty members including the David L Kaplan Chair in Music, and twenty sessional instructors, the Department of Music offers a B. Mus. (Performance, Individualized, and Music Education streams), graduate degrees in music education, musicology, music theory, and performance (includes conducting), a Jazz certificate, a Music and Wellbeing certificate, and, a B.A. (Major in Music). The Department of Music has a well-established record of strong leadership in music education, performance, internationally recognized music scholarship, and ongoing outreach and engagement.

Qualifications:

Master’s of music degree required along with evidence of significant professional performance experience. Previous teaching experience will be considered an asset.

Salary/Compensation:

The salary band for this position for the 2022-2023 academic year is: Assistant Professor $99,945- $120,099.
