James Sherry, Professor at Mahidol University in Thailand, finished a seven-city tour in April 2004 to inform musicians about the upcoming ITG conference in Bangkok. He and pianist Bang Lang Do presented Quietly: In Search of the American Spirit in Chiang Mai and Bangkok, Thailand along with Bangkok Symphony Orchestra trumpeter Lertkiat Chongjirajitra, at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois, at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois, and at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky with Vincent DiMartino. The program is a reflection on the "spirit" of America featuring the trumpet music of Joseph Turrin, Kent Kennan and Eric Ewazen and songs of John Corigliano, Leonard Bernstein, and Jimmy Van Heusen. The concert was inspired by a piece entitled Quietude #3 for Trumpet and Piano, by composer Christopher Lobingier. The performers gave the world premiere in Bangkok on March 18, 2004. Quietudes,a set of four pieces, is a meditation on the tragedy of September 11, and the way that the United States has reacted to that event. Lobingier’s latest composition The Susceptibility of Being Accountable for eight trumpets, piano and percussion will be premiered at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in Bangkok, June 2005.

In Joy of Jazz: Blues, BeBop and Beyond , Sherry and Bang Lang Do presented an introduction to the roots of jazz at the Nguoi Viet Community Center in Orange County, California, in Chicago and in Normal, Illinois. Performing standards of Ellington, Monk, Parker, and Gershwin, Sherry discussed the elements of jazz and guidelines for improvising, along with a short workshop.

In December 2004 James Sherry gave a concert at the Hanoi Conservatory in Vietnam, performing the Hindemith Sonata and Arutunian Concerto. He and Professor Ha Dinh Cuong, Principal Trumpet of the Hanoi Philharmonic, gave a two-day masterclass for thirty students and discussed music study outside Vietnam. He also appeared for three nights at the famed Hanoi Jazz Club.
