| The new Dizzy Gillespie trumpet outfit |
Conn-Selmer, Inc. is introducing a new, special edition Dizzy Gillespie King Silver Flair trumpet outfit in both a "straight" traditional bell (model 2055DZ) and a limited number of upturned bells (model 2055DZU).
"Dizzy’s own King Silver Flair trumpet is on display at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC", said Tedd Waggoner, brass instrument marketing manager for Conn-Selmer. "The current Dizzy Gillespie trumpet includes the most modern features, as well as a one-piece yellow brass bell and a beautiful engraving of Dizzy himself."
The trumpet features Monel pistons, a .462" bore, first and third slide saddles, silver plated finish, a 3C mouthpiece and a deluxe custom designed leather case. "The case is outstanding in itself," said Waggoner. "It features a luxurious leather exterior with brass trim and a traditional red velvet plush lining. It is truly a special package."
The company hopes the new trumpets, officially licensed by the Gillespie estate, will be a hit with Dizzy fans and has gone to some lengths to attract them. Free items include a unique Dizzy Gillespie CD developed in cooperation with JazzImprov magazine and a free issue of the magazine that features sixteen pages on Dizzy, his life and his music. Other Dizzy Gillespie related items, including publications, songbooks, posters and even downloadable music tracks are available through www.dizzygillespie.com. To contact Conn-Selmer, write to P.O.
