Bert Langenkamp, trumpet player with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, has released his first solo CD, recorded with organist Mark Heerink (on the historic “Pieter Backer” organ of 1668-1671) at the Bonifaciuskerk (St Boniface Church) in Medemblik, The Netherlands.

Langenkamp studied trumpet at the “Twents Conservatorium” in Enschede with Herman Hopman then at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Peter Masseurs. He attended various masterclasses with Timofei Dokshitzer and others, and studied baroque trumpet with Susan Williams at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.

He has played with many orchestras and ensembles such as the Ebony band, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Schönberg ensemble, the ASKO ensemble and the “De Volharding” Orchestra. From 1994 to 1995 he was a trumpet player with the “Gelders Orkest”.

In 1998 he was appointed principal trumpet with the Noordhollands Philharmonic Orchestra and since January 2001 he has played with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. He regularly gives concerts with organ and is a member of the Concertgebouw’s brass ensemble.

Most of the pieces on the CD are standard repertoire. Two exceptions are the Heroic Music by George Philip Telemann and the Petite Trilogie by Willem Frederik Bon. Telemann wrote his Heroic Music for two, not specifically indicated, instruments and basso continuo: the majestic character of the trumpet has proven extremely suitable for this work. Willem Frederik Bon studied clarinet, composition and orchestral direction and taught composition at the school of music in Groningen . He took lessons in conducting from Willem van Otterloo and attended masterclasses with Herbert von Karajan. His best-known work is Les quatre saisons de Verlaine for soprano, mezzo, tenor, baritone and orchestra. In 1970 he wrote Petite Trilogie for Ad Klink, trumpet player with the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra.
