The 5ème concours de trompette Maurice André (Fifth Maurice André Trumpet Competition) took place in Paris from 18th to 26th October.

Forty-five competitors were accepted, representing twenty-two different countries: the jury, too, was multinational, consisting of Maurice André (Chairman, France), Eric Aubier (France), Ole Edvard Antonsen (Norway), Roger Boutry (France), Gabriele Cassone (Italy) , Reinhold Friedrich (Germany), Anthony Plog (USA), Guy Touvron (France), and Roger Voisin (USA). Thirteen competitors went through to the second round, and four to the final, with these results:

  • Grand Prize of the City of Paris : not awarded
  • 2nd Prize : Ibrahim Maalouf (France) and Giuliano Sommerhalder (Switzerland)
  • 3rd Prize : Olivier Bombrun (France)
  • 4th Prize : Raphaël Dechoux (France)
     
  • Best performance of Alektos by Roger Boutry (trumpet and organ work commissioned for the competition) : Sergio Casasi (Italy)
  • Most promising performer : Fruzsina Hara (Hungary)
  • Quality of sound : Ibrahim Maalouf (France)
  • Honourable mention : Clément Saunier (France)
