Jazz trumpet festival Brazil: 3rd edition

The Brazilian Jazz Trumpet Festival is a trumpet festival focused on jazz and commercial music.


Founded in 2013, the Jazz Trumpet Festival (JTF) is organized by Otávio Nestares, Bruno Garcia Fermiano, Marcos Braga and Felippe Rodrigues Freire in São Paulo. 

Eric Miyashiro was the first international artist in 2013. In 2014, Allen Vizzutti was the 2nd.The third JTF took place in September 2015. The international artists were Thomas Gansch (Austria), Greg Gisbert (USA), Byron Stripling (USA) and Yturvides Vilchez (Venezuela). Other artists included Daniel D´Alcântara (Adams artist), Moisés Alves (Conn-Selmer artist) and seven more Brazilian artists. More than 150 trumpet players attended the event and 200 people attended each concert. The JTF was hosted by Santa Marcelina College.

On Monday, September 14, in the morning Araken Busto, a Yamaha maintenance technician gave a workshop about how to keep your horn in good condition. In the afternoon, Thomas Gansch gave a warm-up session and answered some questions about his musical life and his group, Mnozil Brass. After that, Cláudio Cambé Sampaio gave a class big band repertoire. In the evening, Thomas Gansch & JTF Combo performed the opening concert with special guest Greg Gisbert and Raphael Sampaio.

Tuesday, September 15 began with a warm-up session led by Clóvis Beltrami. Greg Gisbert gave a morning workshop about trumpet technique and professional careers. In the afternoon, he gave a master class about improvisation. After his class, Paulo Viveiro taught about the psychology of efficient practicing. That evening, Greg Gisbert & Big Band Theory performed a concert. Byron Stripling joined Gisbert to pay tribute to Clark Terry playing Joonji.

On Wednesday, September 16, Altair Martins led an early morning warm-up session. Daniel D´Alcântara (Adams Brazilian Artist) taught a lesson about improvisation. In the afternoon, Walmir Gil (Yamaha Brazilian artist) gave a masterclass titled "Anyone Can Improvise." Following Gil, Altair Martins led a session about Brazilian big band repertoire. That night, Daniel D´Alcântara performed a concert and released his new album.

Thursday, September 17 began with a warm-up session led by Clóvis Beltrami. Byron Stripling presented his master class "How to Practice." In the afternoon, Moisés Alves (Conn-Selmer Brazilian artist) talked about his musical life. Paulo Baptista gave a class entitled "The Development of Performance and Trumpet Pedagogy." That night, Byron Stripling & Speakin´Jazz Big Band gave a concert with Greg Gisbert as the special guest.

 

On Friday, September 18, Clóvis Beltrami led a warm-up session. After that, Yturvides Vilchez presented "How to Warm-up Everyday" and played a chart with a group of students. In the afternoon, Eleni Vosniadou gave a workshop about Alexander Technique. Flávio Gabriel presented his masterclass "Mastering Your Practicing." In the closing concert, Yturvides Vilchez & JTF Big Band performed some charts of his new album Pa' Que No Se Te Olvide.
