University of Kentucky

The University of Kentucky (UK) School of Music announces trumpet teaching assistantships as well as graduate fellowships opening for the school year beginning in Fall 2024.

Two trumpet teaching assistantships are projected to be available in Fall 2024, contingent upon graduation/job placement of current trumpet TA's. Responsibilities dependent upon the experience of the candidate and may include teaching lessons as well as trumpet methods (the trumpet section of brass methods). A Full TA includes full tuition waiver, health insurance, and  a stipend projected to exceed $14,000 per year. Half TA's may also be available.

UK also offers competitive graduate fellowships. Fellowships include tuition waivers and up to  $20,000/year stipends. Some fellowships have earlier deadlines than assistantships. Some  fellowship are strictly academic, and others are for those bringing diversity to the university.  For more information on fellowships, see: https://gradschool.uky.edu/fellowships Important note: The GRE is NOT required for admission to the MM or DMA, or for  consideration of an assistantship. However, students who are good test-takers are encouraged to  take the GRE to be more competitive for certain fellowships, which represent university-wide  competition indicative of a Carnegie Tier 1 Research University.

In addition to TAs and Fellowships, UK has a new Chamber Music Scholars program for (2)  trumpet players in a scholarshiped Graduate Brass Quintet. One of these position will be open in Fall 2024.

UK offers both the MM and DMA in trumpet performance, as well as a Certificate in Baroque Trumpet.
