MOREKarin Bliznik named principal trumpet of St. Louis Symphony
Karin Bliznik, from Brockton, Massachusetts, joins the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra in Fall 2013 as principal trumpet. She is currently principal trumpet of the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra, as well as associate principal trumpet of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Bliznik has held principal positions with the Charlotte Symphony and the Charleston Symphony, in South Carolina. In the 2012-2013 season, she was invited as guest principal trumpet in both the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. She has also performed with many other orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic, and the Boston Pops Orchestra.
Bliznik received her Master of Music from Northwestern University, her Bachelor of Music from Boston University, and she spent a semester abroad at London's Royal College of Music. She has been involved in many music festivals, including Spoleto, Aspen, Eastern Music Festival, Pacific Music Festival, Lucerne Music Festival under the direction of Pierre Boulez, and also has spent two summers as a Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center. While in Atlanta, Bliznik was on faculty at Kennesaw State University, and regularly taught for the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra and Talent Development Program.
