Qiwei Li to Yangzhou University

Qiwei Li has been appointed assistant professor of trumpet at Yangzhou University Conservatory of Music in China. Li is a Chinese native who was born in Nanjing, Jiangsu province.

Li began pplaying trumpet at age 9, and joined middle/high school symphony orchestra at age 12.

When he turned 18, Li came to the United States to pursue a collegiate trumpet studies. During his time in the U.S., he had the chance to experience a wide range of trumpet playing. He was a member of his college's marching band, symphonic band, jazz lab, jazz combo, chamber group, musical group, and other groups. When Li comes back to China for summer vacations, he usually helps his middle/high school symphony orchestra, and plays in Chinese summer festivals.

Li holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where his primary teachers were Dr. Brian Walker, Dr. Ben Shaffer, and Dr. Matt Anderson, a dual Master of Music degree (trumpet performance and jazz studies) from Bowling Green State University under the guidance of Charles Saenz, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln with Dr. Darryl White and Scott Quackenbush. While in Lincoln, Li was hired as an adjunct professor of trumpet at Union College.
