Esteban Batallán to Chicago Symphony Orchestra

Following recent auditions held in May and June 2019, Esteban Batallán has been appointed the new principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO). He had previously been serving as principal trumpet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic. 

Batallán was born in Barro (Pontevedra) in 1983. He received his training at the Conservatory of Music in Pontevedra, Conservatory of Music of Vigo, and the School of Musical Studies of Galiciaa. In 2002 he won the Principal Trumpet position in the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, a position that he held until September 2018 and in which he is on leave.

As soloist, he has played with Ensemble Orchestral of Paris, Orchestra of Radio Spanish Television, Gstaad Festival Orchestra, Orchestra of Cordoba, Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, Geneva Camerata, Concerto Grosso Frankfurt, National Youth Orchestra of Spain, Philharmonic Orchestra of Pontevedra, Symphony Orchestra of India, among others, and works like Haydn, Hummel, Tomasi, Aroutunian, Jolivet, Bach Brandenburg, among others.

Batallán was also invited to serve as Guest Principal Trumpet of CSO in both 2003 and 2017.
