Nairam Simoes to Lamar University

Nairam Simoes has been appointed Instructor of Trumpet at Lamar University, effective Fall 2019.

Originally from Brazil, Nairam Simoes enjoys a multifaceted career as a performer, educator, and clinician, particularly in the areas of chamber music and Brazilian music. As Lamar's Instructor of Trumpet, his duties will include applied lessons, studio classes, chamber music, and high brass methods. In addition, he will also perform with Lamar University’s faculty brass quintet. Prior to his appointment at Lamar, Simoes served as Lecturer of Trumpet at Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Simoes has played with many of the Midwest’s ensembles including the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Lexington Philharmonic, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Queen City Opera, among others. As a chamber musician, he has played with Canterbury Brass, Infinity Brass Quintet (with members of Empire Brass), Wright State Faculty Brass Quintet, Brazilian Trumpet Ensemble, and others.

A passionate educator and clinician, Simoes has given recitals and master classes at numerous institutions worldwide and recently presented clinics at the University of North Texas, Stephen F. Austin State University and University of Campinas in São Paulo, Brazil. He was also Trumpet Faculty for the 2016 Campina Grande International Music Festival in Paraíba, Brazil. His students have competed and successfully advanced to the National Trumpet Competition Semi-Finals, in both ensemble and solo divisions.

He served as Director and Co-Founder of both the 2016 and 2017 editions of the Brazilian Ubirani International Trumpet Festival, a weeklong trumpet festival offering master classes, seminars, large and small ensembles experiences, instrument exhibits, participant recitals, and concerts featuring renowned guest artists such as former principal trumpet of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Charles Schlueter and Alan Siebert, Trumpet Professor at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

Simoes holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, a Master of Music from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Memphis, where he graudated Summa Cum Laude. His primary teachers include Alan Siebert, Phil Collins, Kyle Millsap, Charles Schlueter, Eric Berlin, David Spencer, Ayrton Benck, Marie Speziale and Jim Pandolfi. Nairam Simoes is a Powell Trumpets Performing Artist.
