Kevin Good named Affiliate Professor of Trumpet at Grand Valley State University

Detroit Symphony Orchestra member Kevin Good has recently been appointed Affiliate Professor of Trumpet at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan.

Good received the bachelor’s degree from Baldwin-Wallace College and his master’s degree from Northwestern University. Good has served in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra trumpet section since September 1979. Prior to joining the DSO, he taught trumpet and music theory at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He has also taught trumpet at the University of Michigan and the University of Windsor.

 

One of the founders of the acclaimed Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings, Good regularly performs with the ensemble, serves on its board of directors, and has co-produced and recorded three Chamber Winds discs for Koch International Classics label. An active composer and arranger, Good has also written numerous jazz works and produced arrangements for Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings.

In addition to performing and producing, Good has overseen the development and implementation of music programs and grants for young students, and frequently teaches master classes. He has also coached the Waterford School system, the Michigan All-State Program, and the Interlochen National Music Camp.

The trumpet studio at GVSU is led by Richard Stoelzel, professor of trumpet, who will host the 38th Annual Conference of the International Trumpet Guild, June 11-15, 2013 in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan.
