Paul Merkelo Visits TCU

On February 2, 2017, Paul Merkelo, principal trumpet of the Montreal Orchestra, gave a master class and recital at Texas Christian University. 

Paul Merkelo gave a two-hour masterclass in which several students had the opportunity to play for him. Topics discussed included how to prepare for auditions, how to distinguish between “practice” and “performance” in the practice room, and how to avoid practicing mistakes in the practice room.

Collaborating with pianist Rebecca Wilt, Merkelo presented the recital “From Russia With Love.” The program began with Flight of the Bumble-Bee by Rimsky-Korsakov and concluded with Wilt's arrangement of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. The artistry of both these musicians made for a special evening that was enjoyed by all in attendance.
