The University of Kentucky (UK) School of Music announces a teaching assistantship in the area of trumpet for students beginning in Fall 2019. Responsibilities include teaching lessons, playing second trumpet in the UK Faculty Brass Quintet, and other duties based on candidate's strengths and needs of the school. TA includes full tuition waiver, health insurance, and a stipend projected to be between $10,000 and $11,000 per year.
UK offers both the MM and DMA in trumpet performance, as well as a new Certificate in Baroque Trumpet.
In the past five years, UK trumpet graduates have won college teaching positions at Western Colorado State Univeristy, Winthrop University, University of North Carolina-Charlotte, Bellarmine University, Centre College and others, as well as orchestral positions with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra (principal trumpet) and National Centre for Performing Arts Orchestra (Beijing, China).

Important note: The GRE is NOT required for admission to the MM or DMA, or for consideration of an assistantship (Contrary to indications on the UK website). However, students who are good test-takers may want to take the GRE to be eligible for university-wide scholarly research fellowships.
