May 27, 2021 - Join Grammy Award-Winning American Trumpeter Charlie Porter & His Quartet at a Virtual Event to Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts. In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, Grammy award-winning American trumpeter, composer and School of the Arts alumnus Charlie Porter will perform live on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at a FREE virtual event, organized by the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Foundation. 


The live event, taking place entirely over Zoom, will begin promptly at 6pm with a performance by Charlie Porter & his quartet.


Immediately following the show there will be a Q&A with Charlie Porter. Guests can interact through the Zoom chatbox to have their own questions answered by the artist. 


“The Foundation is proud to be celebrating 30 years of the Dreyfoos School of the Arts, and we are thrilled to showcase School of the Arts alumnus Charlie Porter as an exemplification of the talent that emerges from the school year after year,” said Chris Snyder, Executive Director of the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Foundation. “It was important to us to hold a free event, as open access to the arts is in the spirit of the school. Hosting the event virtually allows us to engage not just our local supporters, but also music enthusiasts from across the world in commemorating this exciting milestone for the School of the Arts.”

ABOUT CHARLIE PORTER

Charlie Porter was born in Boynton Beach, Florida and studied trumpet at the Palm Beach County School of the Arts, later renamed Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, where he is a music-band class of '96 alumnus. He holds degrees from The Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music in jazz and classical performance, and was a Fulbright Scholar at the Paris Conservatory, conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Paris. Porter was awarded a Grammy Award at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards for his collaboration on the album Songplay, in 2020.

Dreyfoos School of the Arts. Funds raised by the Foundation provide for curriculum enhancements that cannot be funded through the School District. This includes art lessons, supplies, basic needs through the pandemic, artists-in-residence, guest artists, summer institutes, scholarships and more.
