The Department of Music at the University of Connecticut is seeking a full-time (9 month) tenure-track appointment as Artist/Teacher of Trumpet at the rank of Assistant Professor to start August 23, 2008. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate trumpet students and advising undergraduate and graduate students. Serve as administrative coordinator of wind performance area. Be involved in recruitment and participate in workshops, off-campus visitations, and performances at local, state, national and international levels. Additional responsibilities may include teaching brass related classes, coaching small ensembles and teaching jazz improvisation and serving on department, school and university committees, as assigned by the Department Head.

Qualifications include active performer with successful college-level or equivalent professional teaching experience. Ceremonial Bugle/Trumpet in The Hellcats

The United States Military Academy Band is the oldest musical organization in the United States Army. The Hellcats Field Music Group is the USMA Band's oldest component, dating back to 1776. They are the premier bugle and drum ensemble of the U.S. Army. The Hellcats are comprised of eight buglers and five rudimental drummers whose primary mission is to support the United States Corps of Cadets; performing at Reveille, Retreat, meal formations, drills, military funerals, public concerts, and marching in USCC reviews.

The Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University announces a Graduate Assistantship in Trumpet starting in August of 2008. Duties are to play in the Blackwelder Brass, a graduate brass quintet who's duties include outreach concerts, university events and church residencies. This graduate assistant will also be expected to play in the university orchestra, wind ensemble and pit orchestra. The winner of this position will receive a full-tuition scholarship and a modest monthly stipend and added pay for church work on weekends. Additional work is available teaching private lessons and freelancing in Oklahoma City.

Position: The University of South Carolina School of Music announces a graduate assistantship position (MM or DMA) in trumpet for 2008-09. The duties will include performing with the faculty brass quintet, teaching applied lessons for selected majors and non-majors, coaching chamber music, teaching secondary instrument methods class, and/or other duties determined by the needs of the School of Music.

Stipend: This is a two-year assistantship paying a stipend of up to $6300 per year (depending on degree) plus a tuition supplement that will cover a significant portion of the tuition and fees. Ohio University, Trumpet Graduate Assistantship opening for Fall, 2008

Duties: Primary responsibility is to perform as second trumpet with OhioBrass, the faculty brass quintet in residence in the School of Music at Ohio University. The quintet performs frequently at universities, public schools, and for arts series throughout the Midwest and Southeast. It has also performed at national and state professional music conferences. Other possible assistantship duties may include: teach applied trumpet to majors and minors, assist with the trumpet ensemble, teach trumpet methods, coach chamber brass ensembles.

Stipend: Stipends ranging from $5,061 to $10,122 in addition to a complete tuition waiver. Tuition scholarships are available for summer terms before and after the period covered by appointments. Additional income is available through professional engagements with the faculty brass quintet and teaching opportunities with the Athens Community Music School.

Degrees offered: The School of Music awards the Master of Music (M.M.) degree in performance, conducting, music education, music therapy, composition, theory, and music history and literature.

The Illinois State University School of Music announces a Trumpet Graduate Assistantship for 2008-2009. The assistantship stipend is worth up to $7200 per year plus a full tuition waiver and is renewable. In addition to performing in a graduate brass quintet and large ensemble, other duties may include instruction of studio/studio overload during faculty tours, assisting with Trumpet Ensemble and Master Class, coaching student chamber ensembles, classroom teaching, audio recording, or other duties according to the candidate's abilities and interest and School of Music needs.

The University of New Mexico Department of Music is seeking excellent performers wishing to study for a master's degree in Trumpet and Trombone Performance. Assistantship includes performing with the University of New Mexico Graduate Brass Quintet, the UNM Wind Symphony, and/or the UNM Symphony Orchestra as needed. Additional duties may include assisting the faculty with brass fundamentals classes for music education majors, coaching undergraduate brass chamber music ensembles, teaching applied lessons for non-majors, and assisting the faculty with undergraduate recruitment. Total workload is 10 hours per week. This is a two-year (four-semester) half assistantship (contract is by semester, but renewable if work is satisfactory). Pay is approximately $5800 per academic year and includes a waiver of tuition (exclusive of special course fees) for up to 6 credits per semester (fall and spring). Any additional hours can be taken at the in-state tuition rate.

The UNM Graduate Brass Quintet receives regular coaching with members of the UNM Brass Faculty and principal brass players in the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and assists the Department of Music in the recruitment of undergraduate students through performances and clinics in area high schools.

The UNM Department of Music has 54 fulltime and part-time faculty members, and approximately 300 undergraduate and graduate majors. University of Louisiana at Monroe Teaching Assistantship in Trumpet Performance


RESPONSIBILITIES: Performance with the Chamber Arts Brass, the faculty brass quintet at ULM. Other duties may include ensemble coaching, studio assignments with non-music majors, performance with university ensembles, teaching a music appreciation class as part of core curriculum, other assignments based on expertise and interest. There are additional performance opportunities with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, local musical theatre and performing groups, and national touring events that make Monroe one of their stops.

STIPEND: $7500 per academic year, full tuition waiver.

QUALIFICATIONS: Winning audition for the faculty brass quintet position, Bachelor's degree in music, and admission to the Graduate School.

The Southern Miss School of Music announces a graduate teaching assistantship in trumpet beginning in the fall of 2008.

Duties include teaching applied lessons for undergraduate trumpet majors and minors, performing in the Southern Arts Brass Quintet (faculty brass quintet) and coaching chamber ensembles.

This is a two-year position with an annual stipend of $6000 (nine month contract) and a full waiver of tuition and fees, including summers. Qualified candidates must hold an undergraduate or master’s degree in music education or performance and exhibit advanced performance skills. Prior teaching experience is preferred.

The School of Music is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The Lamont School of Music, University of Denver announces a Graduate Teaching Assistantship in Trumpet starting August of 2008. Position: Perform the lead trumpet chair in the Lamont Jazz Orchestra, recruit, program, and direct the University Jazz Ensemble (third jazz band), assist in administrating the Jazz Studies and Commercial Music program, and other duties as assigned. The assistantship includes twenty-five hours of trimester credit (one-half of the required credits to earn a MM) a value of approximately $22,500, and a stipend of $5000. This is a two-year assistantship.
