Composer Kenton Bale's work From the Hills for Trumpet and Wind Ensemble was premiered on March 10th during the Southwest Missouri State University Composition Festival. The commissioned work, written for the soloist and SMSU Trumpet Professor Grant Peters, is a set of variations based loosely on the song Blackbird as printed in Vance Randolph's Ozark Folk Songs. Dr. Peters was accompanied in the premiere by the SMSU WInd Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Belva Prather, and in the second performance by Mr. Tim Yontz and the University of Nebraska - Omaha Symphonic Winds on April 25th.
