ITG member Norman Smith of Lake Charles, Louisiana died November 23 after
a brief illness. Smith has contributed to the ITG Journal and authored
several books including Band Music Notes (co-author), Programm-notizen,
March Music Notes, and March Music Melodies. Smith, a native of Missouri,
received an MME from Southwest Louisiana State University (1950) and a
PhD from Florida State University (1968). His association with McNeese
State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana began in 1954, and he retired
in 1978 as Professor Emeritus. During World War II Smith was a B-17 Pilot.
