Sampson Wins AwardAug 8 99

ITG member and composer David Sampson has won a 1999 Academy of Arts and Letters award. The award includes various cash prizes, scholarships, fellowships, and funding for recording, and Sampson is one of fifteen American composers to be honored this year. The Academy gives yearly awards totaling $850,000 to artists, architects, writers, and composers. After nomination, each composers submits two original scores to be considered by a committee of composer-members. This year's committee included Robert Ward, Jack Beeson, Andrew Imbrie, Exra Iaderman, George Perle, Steve Reich, and Joan Tower.
