Mike Kaupa recently has been appointed associate professor of jazz studies and contemporary media (part-time) at the Eastman School of Music. This is an interim appointment for the 1999-2000 academic year.

Kaupa holds a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Fredonia and master of music degree from the University of Miami. He has given jazz workshops and performed at the University of Oregon, Lisbon, Portugal, Lyon, France, and Barcelona, Spain, where he recorded with the quartet Onix. Kaupa has studied jazz with Bill Dobbins, Kenny Werner, Ron Miller, Vincent Maggion and Gary Keller, and trumpet with Gilbert Johnson, David Kuehn, Grant Cooper, and Douglas Prosser.

From 1991-99, Kaupa served on the faculty of the Hochstein School of Music in Rochester. He also has been a member of Eastman's Community Education Division summer studies faculty since 1996.
