| Logan Place coaches NSU trumpet student Jason Ashmore |
On November 5-6, 2007, Logan Place, trumpet instructor at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana, was a guest artist at Northeastern State University (NSU) in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. During his visit, Mr. Place presented a master class to the NSU trumpet studio and presented a recital in the NSU Jazz Lab.
During his master class, Place coached undergraduate trumpet student Jason Ashmore on the Concerto for Trumpet by Joseph Haydn. Place explained the history of the keyed trumpet and how it affects the interpretation of the Haydn and Hummel Concertos.
Logan Place coached undergraduate trumpet student Evan Schuering on a performance of Andante et Allegro by J. Guy Ropartz. Place asked Schuering to shape the lyrical lines and allow the allegro section to dance. After coaching several other students, our guest artist took questions from the attentive audience.
On November 6, Logan Place gave a recital in the NSU Jazz Lab with his colleague from Southeastern Louisiana University, clarinetist Andrew Seigel. Place performed works by Ketting, Haydn, Biber, and Fantini. NSU’s trumpet professor, Jason Dovel, joined Logan Place on Baroque trumpet for the Biber and Fantini works.
