On Thursday and Friday, October 11-12, 2007 Drs. Joel and Carolyn Treybig performed at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico. Both Joel and Carolyn are on faculty at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee where they teach trumpet and flute respectively.
While at ENMU, the Treybigs taught lessons and visited with the students in addition to performing. Their musical selections were not only eclectic, but performed at the highest level possible. Works performed on the trumpet recital were:
- Loeillet – Concerto in D, assisted by Dr. Michael Ellzey
- Friedman – Solus
- Challan – Variations
- Arutiunian – Concert Scherzo
- Bowles – Night Sun Journey
- Delmas – Variation Tendre
- Barat – Fantaisie en mi bemol
- Hoch – Northern Fantasia, Op. 20
Mrs. Kayla Paulk, staff accompanist and vocal coach at ENMU, expertly collaborated on both recitals. Appreciative audiences of faculty, students, and community members filled Buchanan Hall both nights.
Joel Treybig is an Assistant Professor of Music in the Belmont University School of Music where he works with undergraduate and graduate trumpet students, teaches music theory, performs with the Belmont Brass Quintet, and directs Brass Ensembles. Michael Ellzey is Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Eastern New Mexico University and served as host for the Treybigs’ visit. For more information please see the sites linked below.
