Last March, Sebastián Gil, professor of trumpet at Gran Canaria’s Conservatorio Supèrior de Música de Canarias, invited the multi-faceted trumpet player Markus Stockhausen to give a course. Stockhausen’s work focused on two main areas: firstly to practise Carmine Caruso's techniques and the great concertos such as Fasch, Haydn, Ketting, Escher, and Jolivet and secondly an intuitive approach to improvisation.

Present were a total of fifteen trumpet students, all of them with a particular interest in studying with Stockhausen. Every morning the course began with a yoga session, to give the students an approach to this discipline its benefits for their instrumental technique.

The course had an interesting end with a great concert: in the first part Stockhausen performed two of his own pieces accompanied by a string quintet; the second part was dedicated to improvisation.

As head of this conservatoire’s trumpet department Sebastián Gil intends to continue bringing to this center great pedagogues and trumpet players whose broad knowledge and skills will enhance the professional development of the its trumpet students.
