Trumpet soloist James Ackley has been appointed Associate Professor of Trumpet at the University of South Carolina’s School of Music. Ackley previously held the same position with the University of Connecticut since 2001. He also held other teaching positions in the U.S., Mexico and Colombia. As a performer, James is the former principal trumpet of the Bogota Philharmonic and travels frequently as a solo artist under Andes International Management. His first solo CD, Recital Music for Trumpet, has received critical acclaim and his second solo CD, Lírico Latino, has just been released under the MSR Classics label. Ackley commented on his USC appointment: “I am elated to have accepted this position. I look forward to building a strong studio and working closely with the faculty.” James will begin his duties beginning in the fall, 2007.
