Fabrizio Bosso gave an afternoon’s masterclass on January 20th at the Italian Trumpet Academy in Cagliari, capital of Sardinia, Italy. The students were very impressed and inspired by the Bosso’s sound and his wide knowledge of the history and technique of the trumpet in jazz. The same day Fabrizio Bosso gave a excellent concert in the Sardinia Festival which was much appreciated by enthusiastic jazz fans.

Fabrizio Bosso

Fabrizio Bosso was born in Turin in 1973. He began his trumpet studies with his father at the age of five years. He graduated in trumpet, aged fifteen, from Turin’s Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory. During his classical studies he began to play jazz in a big band and small combos. In 1990, he was awarded a scholarship for summer study at St. Mary’s College in Washington.
In 1991, as a competition winner, he attended the elite  "Scuola di Alto Perfezionamento di Saluzzo” with Pierre Thibaud. In 1993, Bosso worked and toured in Italy with George Russell, Mike Gibbs, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Liebman, Carla Bley and Steve Coleman. In 1994 he won the "Summertime in Jazz" competition as best soloist and best band with his quintet and in 1999 won as "Best New Italian Talent" in the Musica Jazz review’s annual vote.

Italian Trumpet Academy and Giorgio Baggiani

Founded in 1998 by Giorgio Baggiani, trumpet teacher at the Cagliari Conservatory,  the Italian Trumpet Academy is based at the Istituzione Scuola Civica di Musica di Cagliari. Players such as Jon Faddis, Bernard Soustrot, Mauro Maur and many others have given masterclasses. Scheduled for 2007 are Marco Braito (principal trumpet, RAI), Gabriele Cassone (soloist), and Diego Cal (principal trumpet, Orchestra di Padova).
Giorgio Baggiani, a well-known soloist, studied with Pierre Thibaud and Timofei Dokshitzer. After many years in the Chamber Orchestra of Padua, in 1999 he returned to Sardinia having won the teaching post at the conservatory, and founded the Istituzione Scuola Civica di Musica. His teaching work has been very successful there: he has taught more than 200 students up to the present day.  For more information and contact details please visit the web site linked below.
