Bengt Eklund receives the ITG Award of Merit from Dunnick and Davies

During a concert of the Göteborg Brass Band in Göteborg, Sweden, on December 9, 2006, Bengt Eklund was presented with the ITG Award of Merit. Eklund’s career includes many years as Principal Trumpet of the Arhus Symphony, as Acting Principal Trumpet of the Göteborg Symphony, a long tenure as Professor of Trumpet, Chamber Music and Instrumental Methods at the Academy of Music and Drama of Göteborg University, and many years as Professor of Trumpet at the Norwegian State Academy of Music in Oslo. Bengt is the founder and music director of the world-renowned Göteborg Brass Band. His students have won international competitions, and many now hold prestigious positions in orchestras and wind groups in Europe.

The presentation of the ITG Award of Merit was made by former ITG presidents, Joyce Davis and Kim Dunnick, during the band’s Saturday night “Jul Concert” event. The concert included several guest artists, including trumpeter Dr. Robert Kase, Professor of Trumpet at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, who is a frequent soloist with the band. The concert was followed by a gala dinner to honor Bengt and his superb career. In attendance were family, friends, band members, former band members, students, former students, and several well-known Scandinavian trumpet players, including Bo Nilsson, Harry Kvebaek, and Niklas Eklund.
