Phil Norris, Professor of Music and Trumpet at Northwestern College, St Paul, Minnesota, has begun an orchestration of Eric Ewazen's Sonata for Trumpet for the publisher, Southern Music Co, and the composer. The second movement score is complete and the first movement core material has been written. The entire work will likely become available through Southern Music as a rental in the Fall of 2007. In the meantime, inquiries may be made with Norris at: pen at nwc.edu

Concerning the second movement score, Ewazen remarks:

"I have been looking at your scoring, and I think it is just beautiful! I enjoy a variety of colors, and that is just what you are achieving, with the resonant strings, the alternating melodies and your gorgeous harp/percussion writing which will give the piece that extra sparkle. My instrument (in addition to piano) was cello! So it is fun for me to see how you are approaching the strings - great! ... I look forward to the other movements."

Phil Norris has degrees in trumpet from Northwestern University and the University of Minnesota. He is active as a composer, arranger and freelance trumpeter as well as a past contributor to the ITG Journal and conference presenter.
