ITG member Dennis Ferry recently recorded Rose Variations (Robert Russell Bennett) with the Denver Concert Band under the direction of Gerald Endsley. Ferry, Principal Trumpet since 1977 of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva, performed the work in concert during the summer of 2005 and recorded it at the Denver Performing Arts Center on August 7th 2006. The CD should be released in six to eight months from then. It is worthwhile noting that this is a world premiere recording of the work in its original form for trumpet with band accompaniment. The score and parts for band are out of print: only the version for trumpet and piano is in print. This trumpet and piano version has been recorded by David Hickman on Crystal Records.
Ferry has been performing for a number of years with the Denver Band. He previously performed and recorded the Concerto for Trumpet and Band by A. Ponchielli.
