On May 1 & 2, 2006 the Music Department at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi was pleased to host a visit by the Airmen of Note.  The "Note" is the official premier jazz ensemble for the USAF Band in Washington, DC.  On May 1, they presented a clinic with the Mississippi State University Jazz Ensemble.  In this clinic, Joe Jackson, the musical director for the Airmen of Note, rehearsed the MSU Jazz Ensemble addressing various aspects of performing successfully in this type of group, then members of the Airmen of Note answered questions. The clinic culminated in a performance of the MSU Jazz Ensemble's repertoire by the Airmen of Note followed by a "mini concert" performed by the Airmen of Note for the MSU Jazz Ensemble.  On May 2, the Mississippi State University Trumpet Studio was pleased to present Brian MacDonald and Kevin Burns, both members of the Airmen of Note trumpet section, in an informal master class.  Brian and Kevin spoke about performing jazz, making a living playing the trumpet, and what it takes to earn a position in a group like the Airmen of Note.  The Airmen of Note presented a fantastic concert that night to a full house at the McComas Hall Auditorium on campus.
