| Danzante: Professor John Holt with the NMSU Symphonic Winds |
February 1-3, 2006, the internationally acclaimed composer Eric Ewazen visited the University of North Texas as a guest of John Holt, Assistant Professor of Trumpet at UNT. During his visit, Ewazen gave master classes, accompanied Mr. Holt on his trumpet sonata, coached student performances of his works and attended an all-Ewazen concert.
While visiting UNT, Mr. Ewazen discussed his career as a composer and the influences on his compositional style. Ewazen and Holt even performed the original version of his Sonata for Trumpet and explained why he decided to change the ending of the second movement upon recommendation of trumpeter Chris Gekker.
In addition to his work with Ewazen at UNT, Professor Holt performed Danzante, Ewazen's new concerto for trumpet solo and wind symphony on February 11, 2006 with the New Mexico State University Wind Symphony under the direction of Dr. Ken Van Winkle and with
Eric Ewazen in attendance.
