Some ITG conference-goers, inter alia, will be familiar with Torpedo Bag designer and company president Steve Kriesel and his alarming yet strangely compelling demonstrations of the bag's protective abilities: it's not for the faint-hearted, and ITG News notes with concern the latest ad campaign which appears to depict some sort of motor vehicle parked on top of one of the bags, containing a 1974 Bach Strad. Now Kriesel writes with news of improvements and new models.
"We have just announced a new leather version of the recently redesigned Torpedo Bag Classic. The new Torpedo Loredo includes three custom options, including choice of leather color, back pack straps and/or a shoulder strap, and handsome name embroidery. In addition to these features, the leather Torpedo Loredo includes all the improvements made during the 2005 redesign of the Torpedo Bag Classic (a Cordura nylon case). This legendary case weighs just seven pounds, but can be seen supporting a car on the torpedobags.com website. No other case can do this, as the other brands all incorporate a hinged design, which offers significantly less protection. Basie alumnus and internationally lauded star Byron Stripling has been using a leather prototype and says, “The case is incredible. It’s beautiful.” The maker invites any interested parties to visit our website for more information, and to enjoy a 10% discount when mentioning this article."
Some early adopters of the Torpedo Bag had complained about the size of the music pouch. Speaking exclusively to ITG News Kriesel addresses this, explaining that the 2005 redesign changed the music storage significantly; "The new music bag holds an Arban AND a 300 page Clifford Brown transcription
book." He adds, "The interior is also especially improved. The back pack straps are lower
so the case rides higher on the back, and there is a shoulder strap-only option
on the leather bag."
