Yamaha last year unveiled a newly designed Xeno cornet "as a prelude to the introduction of a full range of 'top end' brass band instruments".
Yamaha's press release contnues: "The new model has been developed in close collaboration with some of the world's best players and in particular Professor David King, Head of Performance Studies at the University of Salford [UK] and principal conductor of the YBS band, who has worked closely with Frankfurt-based Yamaha instrument maker and designer Thomas Lubitz over the past 2½ years."
The Xeno cornet is claimed to produce greater power and projection whilst maintaining an intrinsically rich quality of sound. Thomas Lubitz adds, "The built-in resistance has been increased while there is also greater projection which we can describe as a oneness of sound which is vital in section playing."
Yamaha's Charles Bozon (UK artist relations and product manager) comments "The UK led the design of the new Xeno cornet with the help of Thomas Lubitz from our Frankfurt Atelier, as the UK has a lot of history, and strong views, when it comes to the brass band market.
"Thomas and myself spent many days and nights with David King and the YBS band whilst we tried this new model through its prototype stages up to last August when after two and a half years we had come to the pinnacle of its design. It was first launched in the UK in September 2005 with most countries shortly following suit."
UK prices are £1849 and £1899 for lacquer and silver plated models respectively. Please visit the Yamaha Music UK website for more details.
