As a result of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans-based Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra has had to suspend its operations, with the exception of a small number of fund-raising concerts hosted by orchestras in other cities. Many members of the orchestra lost everything they own, including homes and instruments. A relief fund has been established to enable the continuation of the musicians' health, life, disability and instrument insurance, as well as partial salary support.
