2006 will commemorate 30 years of service for music educator, trumpet/flugelhorn jazz artist and inventor Don Novy and his 'AAIIRR Power' invention, which developed into the well-known AcoustiCoils.

AAIIRR stands for "Acoustically Adjusted Interference for Improved Response through Research."

Novy was granted his original US Patent in 1976 for 'AAIIRR Power' - 'acoustic induction for brass/ wind instruments'. In its first manifestation this led to a valve realignment process; however in 1988 the AcoustiCoil was patented and it is this that is the focus of Novy's business now.

The company tells us that AcoustiCoil is " ... an insert to the bore now in use world-wide by wind players to improve articulation, intonation, response, endurance and range." Some of the history of the inventions and the brass/wind instrumental acoustics behind them will be found at the website, linked below.

The AcoustiCoils press release continues: "Its value (still priced at US$35) and effectiveness (less than 2% of guaranteed sales get returned) is attested to by the recent addition of a new European Franchised Dealership, 'Soitin Laine Oy' of Helsinki, Finland."
