In May 2005 Wolfgang Guggenberger was appointed Professor of Trumpet at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen (Trossingen Music University) in South-West Germany.
Wolfgang Guggenberger was born in Sonthofen, Bavaria. He was first prize-winner at the national competition Jugend Musiziert (Music by Young People) and won the European Prize of the National Youth Music Competition. In 1978 he distinguished himself at the renowned Deutscher Musikwettbewerb (German Music Competition) in Bonn, where he took second prize.
Guggenberger’s career has been studded with numerous scholarships and awards. He graduated with distinction from the Richard Strauss Conservatory, Munich (teacher: Rolf Quinque) and from the Staatliche Hochschule, Trossingen (teacher: Prof. Horst-Dieter Bolz). Two years of intensive studies in Chicago with Prof. Vincent Cichowicz, Adolph Herseth and Arnold Jacobs were a forward-looking and artistically formative time for him.
From 1986 to 2005 he was a full-time lecturer at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, where he was also Chair of the brass and percussion department. In 2005 he was appointed Professor of Trumpet at Trossingen. As a member of the roll of selected artists of the German Music Council, Guggenberger has played as a soloist with major German orchestras. As a soloist and lecturer Guggenberger has toured many European countries, Georgia, and South East Asia as well as the USA and Mexico.
Besides many broadcast recordings Wolfgang Guggenberger has released three CDs of solo and chamber music. In 2004 he published Basics Plus, his studies for 1 or 2 trumpets (Rundel, Music Publications), which have already become part of the standard repertoire for brass pedagogy.
Guggenberger was a faculty member for the 2005 Sauerland Herbst Festival from October 12 to 16 in Bad Fredeburg, Germany.
