The Freiburg Trumpet Ensemble has released a CD of new music from an interesting roster of composers.

The ensemble is directed by composer and trumpet player Anthony Plog, and is composed of current and ex-students from his trumpet class at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, in Breisgau, Germany.

Plog explains that the CD, released on Summit, was made with a number of objectives in mind, to "in some way serve a larger purpose than just being a CD", and goes on to explain that these ideas include:

  • Professional recording experience for the students,
  • the production of a quality item of lasting value that they can look back on with pride;
  • the introduction of new music into the repertoire for trumpet ensemble.

The CD, then, includes eight new pieces by Frank Campo, Douglas Lowry, Henry Walking and Plog himself. For some pieces the trumpets are joined by other instruments including trombones, percussion, cello and piano, and in Plog's The Bells by the soprano/narrator Maria Cecilia Bengtsson.

Please note that a full review of this CD will be found in the ITG Journal, June 2005 (vol. 29, no. 4, p. 81). The CD is available from Summit as well from other online retailers including, inter alia, various Amazons and Cduniverse.
