| At the Jefferson Memorial |
As part of their trip to compete in the trumpet ensemble division of the 2005 National Trumpet Competition, the East Tennessee State University Trumpet Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. David Champouillon, performed two patriotic concerts on the steps of the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials in Washington, DC. Literature included the extended fanfare from Rocky (Conti, arr.Champouillon), Trumpet Salutations (Coombes), There’s A Great Day Coming (Thompson, arr. Everson) and Two Patriotic Pieces (Ward/Key/arr.Olcott) which includes The National Anthem and America, The Beautiful. Members of the ensemble included Dr. George Winton, Doug Zimmerman, John Williams, Amanda White, Gary Skeen, Jason Bailey, Kelly Scollin, Anthony Parnther, Justin Stanton, Jake Kiger, Alex Calliham, Jeff Kleiber, and Josh Kindle. In between concerts, the ensemble toured the Vietnam Memorial, the W.W. II Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, and the National Aerospace Museum (where we all paid $8.00 for a McDonald’s value meal?) In order to perform these concerts, the ensemble had to apply for a permit which allowed the performances through the U.S Department of the Interior.
