The Louisiana Brass served a "mini residence" at the University of Evansville, January 31 through February 2, 2005. While at the University they performed a recital, offered lessons, and hosted a master class with the music department brass majors. Their recital included a diverse repertoire with such items as Ewazen's Frost Fire, Plog's Mosiacs and Four Sierra Scenes, Mahler's Der Tamboursg'sell (Nancy Balach, soprano soloist), and Arnold's Quintet.
Louisiana Brass was formed in 1993 when most of the members were graduate students at Louisiana State University. The quintet has performed numerous recitals in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans area and has been repeatedly asked to perform on artist series in many communities. The quintet has performed a varied repertoire written and arranged for their medium. In the fall of 2000, the Louisiana Brass performed at the University of Evansville and Baton Rouge as part of their alumni reunion recital tour. Members of the quintet include Timothy J. Zifer, DMA, Associate Professor of Music at the University of Evansville and principal trumpet of the Evansville Philharmonic; John Schuesselin, DMA, Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Mississippi and principal trumpet of the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra; Jeff Leenhouts, MM, principal horn in the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Fort Lauderdale Symphony Orchestra and free lance musician; Cason Duke, DMA, principal trombonist of the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and personnel manager of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, and Richard Brown, BME, free lance musician in the Anaheim area. All group members have received one or more of their degrees from Louisiana State University. In the summer of 2005 they plan to release their first recording.
