John Pursell performs at a recent clinic

In February, ITG member and Yamaha Trumpet Artist Dr. John Pursell was featured as a clinician at the Texas Music Educators Conference in San Antonio, Texas. This annual event is the largest such event and draws thousands of music educators from across Texas and the surrounding states.

Pursell presented his clinic, "Patterns: How I Learned to Love Practicing Backwards," that deals with the development of extraordinarily high levels of technique by using more brain-friendly methods of practice.

He is recently retired from his position as the Senior Ceremonial Trumpeter with the United States Air Force Band. He has authored several articles in the ITG Journal, and has published a book, entitled What I've Learned... The Free Lance Trumpeter's Guide to Professional Music, published by AMG Publishing and available from Robert King Music Company.
