Jeff Reynolds of the University of Toronto writes: "I am pleased to announce the University of Toronto/Yamaha Trumpet Symposium, featuring Jens Lindemann and James Thompson. This four-day event will take place August 17-20, 2004, at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, sponsored by the University of Toronto and Yamaha Canada.
"We invite players who are still in high school, heading towards post-secondary programs, University students at both graduate and undergraduate levels, and professional players seeking to further develop their skills to take advantage of this great opportunity. Masterclasses, lectures, semi-private lessons, ensemble workshops and performances are all on the agenda. Included will be a workshop with Yamaha brass instrument designer Bob Malone.
"Jens Lindemann has established himself as one of the brightest young soloists in the world, after his brilliant tenure with the Canadian Brass. James Thompson, after stellar years as Principal Trumpet with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Atlanta Symphony, is now Professor of Trumpet at the Eastman School of Music and member of the Eastman Brass Quintet. Their masterclasses are innovative and inspiring to participants and observers alike."
Jeff Reynolds adds: "I have contacted 2 of our composers who are going to write new pieces for 2 trumpets, violin, cello and piano, to be played on the final concert, August 20th."
