On April 16-17th, 2004 the Marvin Stamm Quartet performed at the 2nd Annual Tri-Cities Jazz Fest, run by Dr David Champouillon, executive director and assistant professor of music at East Tennessee State University. Members of the group included Mr Stamm on trumpet, Bill Mays on piano, Rufus Reid on bass, and Ed Soph on percussion. As part of the fest, Mr Stamm presented a master class for over 40 students and performed in concert with the ETSU Jazz Ensemble along with his quartet. Tunes played included Caravan, My Foolish Heart, and Beautiful Love. In addition, Mr Stamm played Three More Foxes with Rich Willey (former jazz trumpet with Maynard Ferguson) and Dr Champouillon. During the jazz improvisation clinic Mr Stamm worked with Justin Stanton, a finalist in the 2003 and 2004 National Trumpet Competition – Jazz division, and student of Dr Champouillon. Stanton performed Doxy on trumpet and then again on piano working with Bill Mays. Mr Stamm, and his quartet, showed what true dedication to music, their instrument, and education they have. They served as the perfect role models to all at the clinic and concert.
