A new CD by British trumpet player Martin Winter showcases the variety of his playing styles in a selection of pieces for different lineups. Winter's Tale, released in late 2003 on Doyen's Solo Series, offers seven pieces from Royal Northern College of Music alumnus Winter, covering an interesting range of styles and accompaniments.

The programme includes:

A Child is Born (Jones arr Booker); Concerto for Trumpet and Wind Orchestra (Rodney Bennett); Cornet Concerto (Tomlinson); March for Solo Trumpet (Peterson); Premonitions (Clarke); Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most (Wolf & Landesmann arr Winter); Tanga (Gillespie).

On the CD Winter is accompanied by the Fairey Band, the Royal Northern College of Music Wind Orchestra, Norwegian brass band Eikanger-Bjorsvik Musikklang, and vibraphone player Craig Farr.

Martin Winter's orchestral work has taken him from freelance work to the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra to the Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester (the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Norway) where he is now Co-Principal Trumpet, but his brass banding career saw him in the role of Principal Cornet with several of Britain's top bands, and win Cornet Champion of Great Britain in 1981. He holds the Silver Medal of the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
