Peter Walmsley

Sydney trumpeter Peter Walmsley was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in this year's Queen's Birthday honours, in recognition of his service to the community. Peter retired from the Sydney Symphony in 2000 after more than three decades in the trumpet section. Since then, he has maintained his commitment to the Willoughby City [brass] Band, having commenced as its director in 1970 and taken them to numerous state and national titles. Walmsley is also the chief brass examiner of the Australian Music Examinations Board and has been director of bands at Barker College, on Sydney's upper north shore, since 1975.
