Joey Tartell to Indiana University

Joey Tartell has accepted a trumpet faculty position at the Indiana University School of Music. Mr. Tartell joins trumpet faculty members John Rommel and Edmund Cord and jazz studies faculty member Pat Harbison at Indiana.

Mr. Tartell received his Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance from the Eastman School of Music, and his Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Miami. He left Miami to play lead trumpet for Maynard Ferguson's Big Bop Nouveau, and can be heard on the album "These Cats Can Swing!" He has also played with the Woody Herman Orchestra, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and the U.S. Army's Jazz Ambassadors. Maintaining an active freelance schedule in both Chicago and Indianapolis, Tartell has recently played with Doc Severinsen, Aretha Franklin, Don Henley, Arturo Sandoval, and Barry Manilow, among others. Joey has recorded for the Bob and Tom Show, the Orange Bowl Halftime Show and Parade, Hal Leonard Publications, Electronic Arts, and WMS Gaming.

Mr. Tartell has held faculty positions at St. Joseph's College and Northeastern Illinois University. His trumpet teachers include Gilbert Johnson, Barbara Butler, Charles Geyer, Mel Broiles, and Vincent DiMartino.
