The Quintet on the steps of the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music

Members of the Faculty Brass Quintet at Southwest Missouri State University completed a concert tour of Poland and the Czech Republic with a November 25th concert at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw.

The Academy, founded in 1810, is one of the oldest music schools in Europe and numbers among its graduates Paderewski, Szymanowski and Lutoslawski as well as Chopin himself.

The visit by the quintet was the latest performance in the annual cultural exchange between the institutions, and began with the opportunity to perform for approximately 300 high school students in the city of Jelenia Göra in western Poland.

Grant Peters and Michael Casey (trumpets), Lisa Timm (horn), William Hartman (trombone), and Robert Loffler (tuba) performed a program consisting entirely of American music:

Colchester Fantasy - Eric Ewazen
Brass Quintet - Arthur Frackenpohl
Ellington Suite - Randall Hamm (SMSU Faculty)
Simple Gifts - Sterling Proctor (arr.)
Fascinatin’ Rhythm - Gershwin
St. Louis Blues - WC Handy
Scherzo - John Cheetham
You Make Me Feel So Young - Joseph Myrow
