Lloyd Geisler, the founding president of the International Trumpet Guild, who played first trumpet with the National Symphony Orchestra for a remarkable 33 years and was its associate conductor for concerts in the parks and at Wolf Trap and other performance centers, died Dec. 30 in Brackney, PA at the age of 90.
After high school Geisler trained at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, and joined the National Symphony after his graduation. He was immediately offered the principal trumpet position. During World War II, he played with the U.S. Navy Band, returning to the orchestra in 1946. He was named associate conductor in 1961 and retired altogether from the orchestra in 1973.
He taught conducting and trumpet at Peabody Conservatory and Catholic University and at his Arlington home. He also was a musical contractor in the area. After his retirement he lived in Myrtle Beach, S.C., where golf was a favorite pasttime.
