A late-night BBC Prom concert at London's Royal Albert Hall will feature the UK premiere of Peter Eötvös's 2001 work Snatches of a Conversation for double bell trumpet, speaker and ensemble. The concert takes place at 10.00pm on Friday 8th August. The solo part is performed by the instrument's designer, Dutch trumpet player Marco Blaauw.

Peter Eötvös conducts the London Sinfonietta in a program of 20th and 21st Century music - the oldest piece is Stravinsky's Ebony Concerto - which is part of the BBC's major summer music festival, the "Proms". This is a 109-year old series of "Promenade Concerts" in which part of the audience stands in a "promenade" area of the hall.

In the Eötvös work, the choice of two bells "allows the soloist to alternate rapidly between different mutes and play tremolo effects, and an extra valve enables quartertones to be played over the whole range of the instrument." The instrument was built for Blaauw by the German makers Gärtner & Thul of Düren.
