Joseph Bowman


Dr. Joseph Bowman has recently been appointed Professor of Trumpet and Chair of the Brass Department at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand where he began duties on June 1, 2003. Joe is well known to ITG members through his many articles and involvement as Editor of the ITG Youth Website.

Bowman received his BM degree at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory where he was a student of Alan Siebert and Marie Speziale. He then studied at Arizona State University under David Hickman and earned his MM and DMA degrees while serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Trumpet. For the past two years, Joe taught trumpet and directed the jazz band at the University of Tennessee at Martin.

Dr. Bowman is on the Artist-Faculty of the National Trumpet Competition and has served as a judge in 2002 and 2003. His doctoral dissertation was on Twentieth Century trumpet sonatas. He is considered to be a leading authority on recital repertory for trumpet. Bowman is a Yamaha Performing Artist.
